Blogs and Papers

 It's Been A While....

It has been quite sometime since my last post.  Life has a habit of getting in the way and many ups and downs have happened which have left me emotional and busy.  The most wonderful things have occurred and I am so thankful to my family and friends for their love and constant support.

The blog page now contains a picture of the marvellous Cheryl Beer and I in the Llanelli Wetlands filming together as a way to capture thinking around our deaf sisterhood. and how we create art from these perspectives.  Cheryl's multiple talents include filming and a link is posted below of the finished result - Breathing on Borrowed Time.  A joy and a deep time of reflection that ended up in an art exhibition in Rochester New York curtesy of the wonderful Fran Ledonio Flaherty.

A link to the film is here:

In getting older I am reflecting like never before and as well as the film, my writing is developing too.  Lately, I have had opportunity to combine spiritually inspired work which brings disability arts, deaf arts and my faith together. I am still writing the Adventures of the Commode sisterhood and developing more depth with the characters and storyline.  It is incredibly time consuming.  I have had lots of lovely opportunities to work, training in Inclusive theatre through to equality sessions too and between creating lots of lovely memories with Derek, life is feeling balanced and positive.

I was honoured to receive an Award from an Indonesian Disability Arts organisation JDA, back in November 2023 for my services to the disability arts. I didn't receive the award physically until March this year, but blown away by it. Andrew Bolton was taking care of it until I was able to collect it - a picture of him and I now features on the head of the blog page.  Thank you so much for Andrew and for Nano Warsono designing the trophy and bringing it over from Jakarta by plane too.

I aim to post my next blog before too long - until then take care.

Musings on Life

By ruth February 24, 2025
2025 and the world has changed - frighteningly. Yet, there really is nothing new under the sun. Kingdoms come and kingdoms go just as the sun comes up, and the sun goes down, with the world continuing to revolve whilst injustices, war, global warming and dehumanisation continues: so much for progress and civil behaviour. At least I can pray, check my motivation and try and be kind to everyone I interact with. Oh, and write - see below.........
