2025 and the world has changed - frighteningly.

Yet, there really is nothing new under the sun.  Kingdoms come and kingdoms go just as the sun comes up, and the sun goes down, with the world continuing to revolve whilst injustices, war, global warming and dehumanisation continues: so much for progress and civil behaviour.

At least I can pray, check my motivation and try and be kind to everyone I interact with. Oh, and write - see below.........

The Squirrel

The car in front clipped a rodent

Racing obliviously across the road.

My speed gave time to see it squirm and wriggle

Without moment to brake and stop.

My stomach lurched at its intense pain.

It spun as on a rotisserie stuck to the asphalt.

I drove on not knowing if I should pray

That the car behind should run over its tiny head,

Or if it could recover and continue its run.

Its squirming got to me – unsettled thoughts hit deep:

The bombs and children caught up in a conflict that was not theirs.

What is my reaction as they wriggle and spin in shock,

Pain and total fear

In cribs, beds or their mother’s arms?

This age of technology anaesthetising us to a child’s suffering.

Living in a world of blocked imagination

As destruction reigns relentlessly,

Unable to ‘see’ deaths of innocents.

Engaging with carnage: picked-up walkie talkies,

Everyday objects, weaponised.

An eye for an eye.

It doesn’t matter whose eye,

Especially when reading a pager.

There is another way

A way of love, forgiveness and peace.

It was paid for in full.

Writhing upon a bolted down rotisserie

That spun the world into a new axis,

Gathering souls to think again, to

Love your enemies. Alas

Man’s inhumanity to man – oh look, there’s a squirrel!
